Cancellation, Withdrawal and Refund Policy

This policy explains how cancellations, withdrawals, refunds, installment plans, transfers, and program discontinuations are handled by Unix Training Academy.

Enrollment Deposit

The $500 enrollment deposit is part of tuition and is governed by the cancellation and refund terms below.

Written Notice

Cancellation or withdrawal requests should be submitted in writing to info@unixtrainingacademy.com.

Refund Review

Approved refunds are calculated using the student’s payment history, effective withdrawal date, and applicable enrollment terms.

Draft policy notice: This policy is intended to provide clear operational guidance. It should be reviewed for consistency with the academy’s final enrollment agreement and applicable legal requirements before live checkout is activated.

1. Scope of This Policy

This policy applies to tuition, enrollment deposits, installment payments, cancellations, withdrawals, transfers, deferrals, and program discontinuations involving Unix Training Academy.

Program-specific terms may also appear in the student’s signed enrollment agreement or payment schedule.

2. Enrollment Deposit

Students selecting an installment plan may be required to pay a $500 enrollment deposit.

  • The deposit is credited toward total tuition.
  • The deposit is not an additional charge above tuition.
  • The deposit helps reserve the student’s place in a cohort.
  • Refund eligibility is determined under this policy, the signed enrollment agreement, and applicable requirements.

3. Cancellation Before Training Begins

A student who wishes to cancel before training begins must submit written notice to info@unixtrainingacademy.com.

The date the written notice is received will be used when determining the effective cancellation date and any refund due.

Where a legally required cancellation period applies, Unix Training Academy will provide the refund required by that law.

4. Withdrawal After Training Begins

Students may withdraw after training begins by submitting written notice that includes:

  • Full name
  • Program name
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Requested withdrawal date
  • Brief reason for withdrawal

The effective withdrawal date will generally be based on the earliest applicable date established by written notice, last attendance, or termination by the academy.

5. Refund Calculation

When a refund is due, it will generally be calculated using:

Eligible tuition and refundable fees paid
minus tuition earned through the effective withdrawal date
minus any permitted charges
equals the refund due.

For live online programs, tuition earned may be determined using the scheduled instructional time completed before the effective withdrawal date.

Refund calculations may also consider attendance, access to instructional resources, completed program portions, and the terms of the signed enrollment agreement.

6. Installment Plans

An installment plan changes the payment schedule but does not reduce the student’s total tuition obligation.

  • Payments must be made according to the agreed schedule.
  • Students remain responsible for tuition earned through the effective withdrawal date.
  • Future unearned tuition will be handled according to the applicable enrollment agreement and refund terms.

7. Late or Missed Payments

When an installment payment becomes overdue, Unix Training Academy may:

  1. Send a payment reminder.
  2. Provide a brief grace period.
  3. Temporarily suspend access to classes, recordings, labs, portals, or instructional resources.
  4. Require the account to be brought current before access is restored.

A missed payment does not by itself constitute a written withdrawal request.

8. Transfers and Cohort Deferrals

A student experiencing a documented emergency may request transfer to a later cohort.

  • Approval is not automatic.
  • Approval depends on cohort availability.
  • The request must be approved in writing.
  • A transfer may be limited to one occurrence.
  • A transfer does not eliminate tuition already earned or an outstanding approved payment obligation.

9. Program Cancellation by Unix Training Academy

If Unix Training Academy cancels or discontinues a program and cannot provide a reasonable alternative, rescheduled cohort, or teach-out, affected students will receive the refund required by the applicable enrollment terms and legal requirements.

10. Refund Processing

Approved refunds will ordinarily be returned to the original payment method whenever reasonably possible.

Refund timing may depend on the payment processor, financial institution, supporting documentation, and applicable requirements.

Students will be notified when the refund review is completed.

11. Third-Party Expenses

Separately disclosed expenses may include cloud-service usage, examination vouchers, books, software licenses, equipment, supplies, or other third-party services.

These charges may be refundable only when:

  • The item has not been issued, activated, consumed, or used.
  • The third-party provider permits a refund.
  • The charge was separately disclosed before enrollment.

12. Scholarships, Discounts and Credits

Refunds involving scholarships, tuition discounts, promotional credits, or sponsorships will be calculated using the student’s actual tuition obligation and the written terms of the applicable award.

A student will not receive a cash refund greater than the amount personally paid by that student.

13. Chargebacks and Payment Disputes

Students are encouraged to contact Unix Training Academy before initiating a payment dispute or chargeback so that the issue can be reviewed promptly.

A chargeback does not automatically establish a withdrawal date, cancel enrollment, or eliminate tuition earned before the effective withdrawal date.

Nothing in this section limits any rights provided by applicable law, card-network rules, or the student’s financial institution.

15. Controlling Documents

This policy must be read together with the signed enrollment agreement, program description, tuition schedule, payment plan, catalog, and any program-specific terms.

Where an applicable legal requirement provides a different mandatory rule, that requirement will control.

16. Policy Updates

Unix Training Academy may revise this policy when programs, payment structures, administrative procedures, or applicable requirements change.

The version provided with the student’s enrollment agreement will govern that student’s enrollment unless a mandatory legal requirement provides otherwise.
